Day 1: New York
Arrive at your centrally located hotel.
Day 2: New York - Boston
(230m/368km) Depart for New England and Boston.
Travel through Connecticut and stop at Mystic
Seaport, a restored 19th-century port.Visit Newport,
Rhode Island, a town rich in history and scenery.
Arrive in Boston a cultural and historical centre.
Day 3: Boston
A day at leisure.Visit the Boston Commons, the
Quincy Markets and Faneuil Hall, a restored
marketplace featuring restaurants, shops and
museums.Take the Freedom Trail walking tour
through Boston’s historic Beacon Hill area.
Day 4: Boston - Québec
(350m/560km) Travel through the heart of New
England through New Hampshire, passing the lake
district and the White Mountains into Québec,
Canada. Arrive in quaint Québec City, the most
European city in North America.Visit the citadel
and the old town to experience the history of this
French Canadian city.
Day 5: Québec - Montréal
(280m/448km) Time to explore Québec City this
morning. Depart along the St. Lawrence Seaway, one
of the most important shipping routes in the world.
Travel to Montréal via auto route, the slower, scenic
route or through the beautiful Laurentien Mountains.
Day 6: Montréal - Ottawa
(205m/328km) Explore Québec’s largest cities, visit
old Montréal, the Olympic site and Notre Dame
Basilica, or take a day trip north to the Laurentide
Park. Continue to Ottawa the capital of Canada, visit
the Parliament buildings and the Museum of Art or
stroll along the Ottawa River.
Day 7: Ottawa - Toronto
(275m/440km) Travel towards the St. Lawrence
River where a cruise of the Thousand Islands is
available.Travel among the hundreds of forested
islands, some with castles and mansions built in the
early 20th century. Continue along the coast of Lake
Ontario to Toronto, Canada’s most sophisticated and
important commercial city.Visit the top of the CN
Tower for a great view or meal.This evening enjoy
Union Street for clubs, restaurants and theatres.
Day 8:Toronto - Niagara Falls
(145m/232km) Travel to Niagara on the Lake, a small
town of historical interest dating to the Revolutionary
War, then on to spectacular Niagara Falls, which you can
view on a walking tour or from the Maid-of-the-Mist.
Day 9: Niagara Falls - Lancaster
(325m/520km) After leaving Niagara Falls, travel
through the Finger Lakes region, New York’s wine
district, and Corning, home of the world-famous
Corning Glass Museum. Into Pennsylvania and the
Appalachian Mountains. Arrive in Lancaster, the
centre of many interesting attractions, including
Pennsylvania Dutch Country, home of the Amish.
Day 10: Lancaster - Washington
(85m/136km) Visit Gettysburg and the Civil War
National Military Park, drive through Maryland.
Arrive in Washington, DC, see the White House,
Capitol, FBI Building,Washington, Jefferson and
Lincoln Monuments, as well as museums such as
the National Gallery and Hirschorn.Tonight, visit
Georgetown for restaurants, shopping and nightclubs.
Day 11:Washington
Day at leisure.Visit the Smithsonian Institute and the
Air and Space Museum. See Union Station, the
beautifully restored train terminal, which now houses
many fine restaurants and shops. In the area are the
Pentagon, Colonial Alexandria and Mt.Vernon,
George Washington’s home and an historic site.
Day 12:Washington - New York
(230m/360km) Depart northward. A visit to
Baltimore, MD, is worthwhile to see its harbour place
restoration and its historic district. Also en route is
Philadelphia, the birthplace of American liberty: see
the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, as well as the
Ben Franklin Museum. Arrive in New York City. |
