Day 1: Los Angeles
Arrive in Los Angeles and proceed to your hotel.
Day 2: Los Angeles - Disneyland - San Diego
Depart Los Angeles for the short drive to Anaheim,
home to the original Disneyland (separate
admission). Explore this fantasyland of magic before
continuing south to San Diego. Discover some of
the sites for which this city is known such as Balboa
Park, the Gas Lamp District, and Seaport Village. If
time permits visit the world famous San Diego Zoo
or see Shamu at SeaWorld (separate admission).
Day 3: San Diego - Phoenix / Scottsdale
(380m/608km) Leave the Pacific Coast and cross
the coastal mountains into the fertile Imperial Valley
where the cool waters of the Colorado River
irrigate crops of alfalfa, onions and lettuce. Drive
east along the Mexican border to Yuma once better
known as a stage stop for the Butterfield Stage.
Cross the mighty Colorado in to Arizona one of
the last states to join the union in 1912. Arrive early
evening in Phoenix/Scottsdale.
Day 4: Phoenix / Scottsdale - Sedona -
Grand Canyon National Park
(220m/352km) Today will be memorable as you see
some incredible scenery. Depart north through
desert landscape into the Verde Valley.Take a trip to
Montezuma Castle (separate admission), a wellpreserved
Native American cliff dwelling before
heading to secluded Sedona and it’s surrounding
rugged Red Rock country. Ascend through Oak
Creek Canyon and the Kaibab Forest to the
Coconino Plateau before arriving at Flagstaff on
Historic Route 66. Pass snow-capped San Francisco
Peaks on the way to the Grand Canyon (separate
admission), spend the afternoon strolling along the
South Rim of this awe-inspiring spectacle.
Day 5: Grand Canyon - Monument Valley -
Lake Powell / Page
(290m/464km) Take time this morning to see the
sunrise over the Grand Canyons South Rim and
then leave the canyon behind as you enter Navajo
country and the Painted Desert.Take a popular
detour through sparsely populated Indian Country
to Monument Valley (separate admission), where
isolated monoliths of red sandstone tower 1,000ft
above the valley floor. Arrive in Page, site of massive
manmade Lake Powell. Learn about previous life in
the canyon and the building of this remarkable
engineering wonder at the Carl Hayden visitor
centre. Page overlooks the dark blue waters of Lake
Powell.
Day 6: Page - Bryce Canyon - Zion National Park /
St. George
(261m/418km) A morning departure north into
Utah passes through scenic Kanab and on to Bryce
Canyon National Park. After exploring supernatural
Bryce Canyon return south to Zion National Park, a
monument of time carved by wind and water and
well known for geological features with names like
The Three Patriarchs, Bridge Mountain,White Throne,
and the hidden Temple of Sinawava. After visiting the
park, continue the short distance south to St. George.
Day 7: Zion National Park / St. George - Las Vegas
(118m /190km) Should you desire, revisit Zion
National Park, then continue to Las Vegas. Before
arriving at the hotel, you may want to visit the
Hoover Dam, one of the highest dams ever
constructed. Arrive in Las Vegas, the man-made
miracle in the desert.
Day 8: Las Vegas
A day at leisure.Try your hand at Lady Luck or see
one of the many famous shows with top named
performers.This city of glitz and glamour will dazzle
you with its colossal hotels, glittering lights, casinos
action and headline shows.Take time to visit the
well known resorts with their individual themes and
a myriad of attractions or just relax by the pool.
Day 9: Las Vegas - Death Valley
(172m/275km) Depart westward into the desert and
Death Valley National Park.This area of unexpected
contrasts offers eerie sites of barren desolation
including the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere
and mountains over 11,000 feet. Make a photo stop at
Badwater or hike to Zabriskie Point for impressionable
views of the valley. Drive along colourful formations
before visiting the oasis of Furnace Creek Ranch,
located in the centre of the expansive valley.
Overnight at the western edge of the Park.
Day 10: Death Valley - Los Angeles
(226m/362km) Continue through the Mojave desert,
home to the world record holding Voyager
experimental aircraft and Edwards Air Force Flight Test
Centre, desert test site for the military where ‘Chuck’
Yeager first broke the sound barrier in 1947. Arrive
late afternoon in the megatropolis of Los Angeles. |
